Sought after bassist and pianist Yorgis Goiricelaya is a rising force in Miami's tropical music scene. He is featured here as a composer, arranger, performer and director of his own latin jazz project "Abriendo Caminos".
English: Yorgis Goiricelaya Martinez was born in Colon, Matanzas, Cuba. He started his musical career in Cuba at the tender age of eight, playing the piano. At the age of 10 he began to play in young local musical groups. Yorgis later moves to Costa Rica where, by 1997, he begins to play professionally as both a bassist and pianist. He later became a part of the most recognized Cuban group in Costa Rica, Conjunto Chocolate, in which he was manager, pianist, and composer. The group recorded two CDs with great success. With his name now known in Costa Rica he started producing music with some of the best known artists there.
In 2004 he launched his own independent music production named ..Abriendo Caminos...(Opening Paths). The album was released in August of 2005 exceeding the expectations of critics. He later launched a series of concerts which were noted as the best Cuban music around, such was the report from the Costa Rican newspaper, ..La Nacion... On this CD we find the multi-talented Yorgis directing, producing, writing music, playing the bass, piano, flute, and singing. In December of 2005 Yorgis moved to Miami, becoming a part of recognized dance groups like: Albita, Rey Ruiz, Luis Boffil, Manolin "El Médico de la Salsa", El Tumbao, and jazz groups such with Carlos Averhoff (Irakere) and Hilario Bell. Since then he has participated with important Latin musical figures such as: Oscar D..Leon, Albita, Rey Ruiz, David Bisbal, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Franco de Vita, Celia Cruz, La India, Jose Alberto el Canario, Chucho Valdes, Carlos del Puerto Jr, Ignacio Berroa, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Amaury Gutierrez, Ana Barbara, Johnny Ventura, Julio Sabala, Puerto Rican Power, Lucrecia, Francisco Cespedes and many others.

A sus 10 años comienza a tocar en grupos juveniles de su ciudad. Luego radica en Costa Rica en el 1997 donde comienza nuevamente sus estudios de contrabajo y comienza a tocar en grupos profesionales. Al año siguiente participa en los mas destacados grupos musicales de Costa Rica como bajista, luego pianista en varios, y se desempeña como arreglista. Formó parte de el grupo cubano mas importante en ese país llamado Conjunto Chocolate, del cual fue manager, pianista y arreglista. Con 'Chocolate' graba 2 discos.
En el año 2004 comienza su propia producción independiente llamada 'Abriendo Caminos', disco lanzado en Costa Rica en agosto del 2005. La obra "va creando las máximas expectativas de la musica cubana en Costa Rica", dicho por la crítica del periódico La Nación. Desde diciembre del 2005 radica en Miami formando parte de los grupos las nombrados de musica bailable de esta ciudad como: Albita, Rey Ruiz, Luis Boffil, Manolín "El Médico de la Salsa", El Tumbao, grupos de jazz como Carlos Averhoff (Irakere) Hilario Bell etc.. Como bajista ha participado en Miami en grabaciones para Albita Rodriguez como pianista y arreglista de su nuevo CD Live. Ha compartido escenarios con figuras importantes como: Oscar d'Leon, Albita, Rey Ruiz, David Bisbal, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Franco de Vita, Celia Cruz, La India, Jose Alberto el Canario, Chucho Valdes, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ignacio Berroa, carlos del Puerto Jr, Amaury Gutierrez, Ana Barbara, Johnny Ventura, Julio Sabala, Lena, Puerto Rican Power, Lucrecia, Francisco Cespedes entre otros.
