Cousin of Puerto Rican musical icon Rafael Cortijo, Don Perignon conquered the timbales by age fifteen and later joined Lalo Rodriguez's band. After also working for Andy Montañez's (of Gran Combo fame) as musical director, he was nicknamed "Don Perignon" after his elegant style of timbale playing. This recording celebrates the 20th anniversary of the band he formed and leads, La Orquesta Puertorriqueña, and featured many greats of Puerto Rican salsa: Roberto Roena, Elías López and Raúl Rodríguez, as well as an entourage of singing superstars, namely Luisito Carrión, Josué Rosado, Victor Manuelle, Pedro Brull, Pupi Cantor and Andy Montañez.
